So, I'm sure you've noticed the major construction that I've done on my front page; don't worry, I didn't delete anything, simply moved it off of the front page for the time being to make room for "NaNo Central." If you're looking for something that was on my front page, I assure you that it's still in my gallary/favorites/whatever it is you're looking for.

I'm doing good so far, often going past the day quota, which is good. They encourage you to do that, so that you don't have to rush around later, scrambling words together at the last minute.

I broke or sprained my ankle the other day, and I did end up falling behind in word count because I was trying to decide whether to go to the hospital or not (I decided not - I don't think the doctors would appreciate a frantic WriMo, who hadn't shaved her legs or showered in a few days, on their hands), and I worried that I wouldn't be able to catch up, but I'm happy to report that I was able to make it up and then some last night. I give credit to Ben, Jerry, a pint of Cherry Garcia, an empty house, and the Sweeney Todd soundtrack.

Heartbeat is well on its way to 50,000 words!

I have to saw, though, that the "don't bother about editing" rule completely killed me the first two days. I'm a compulsive editor, and it literally hurts me to not go back and fix stuff immediately. I actually sat myself down last night and had a serious talk with myself.

"Self," I said. "We gotta talk."

"Oh no."

"Yes," I replied, grimly, staring her in the eyes. "It's come to a breaking point: we can't edit anymore. If we want to get those 50,000 words, we have to ignore our baser instincts until December."

"No!" Self screamed, clutching her hair in distress. "We can't! It has to be perfect!"

I sighed, staring her down grimly. "It will be painful - we might need a twelve step program - but this is what we have to do. This is our first NaNo, don't we want to make it memorable by getting those 50,000 words in the first go-round?"

Self whimpered pitifully, her instincts obviously telling her we were going crazy (and not because we were talking to our self, either). "B-but..."

"Self, we have to have willpower," I said, gripping her shoulder in comfort. "Just like when we turned Veggie, we can't let our temptations win us over. We can edit our heart away in December, but for now..." I took a deep breath, anticipating the pain in the words I uttered. "For now, we have to ignore it."

Self sobbed in anguish for the rest of the night, but our willpower held, and now I can safely say that the first twelve hours of denial have to be the worst, because I'm starting to get used to it now. It gets easier as the hours pass.
